Paneer Tikka is a healthy Indian appetizer made with chunks of paneer, bell peppers, and onion petals marinated together in a blend of yogurt and spices and later cooked in a tandoori oven traditionally.

However, making Paneer tikka in the air fryer is a breeze and removes the need of owning a tandoori oven to enjoy this restaurant-style Paneer Tikka. Air fryer Paneer Tikka is one of the easiest and healthy Indian appetizers you can make in the last minute as it takes very little time.

    • Add all the marination ingredients except paneer and veggies to a mixing bowl and mix well.
    • Now add the paneer cubes, pepper cubes, and onion petals to the marination mixture and mix well until everything is coated well. Marinate for a minimum of 30 mins up to overnight if you have time.

    • Now thread the paneer and veggie cubes onto skewers leaving space between each piece(very important for a good air fryer paneer) and alternating between paneer and veggie pieces as shown in the picture. Note: If you are using wooden skewers, soak them for 30 mins in water before using them.
    • Place the paneer skewers inside the air fryer onto the slotted plate or if provided, on a skewer rack. You can brush oil lightly on the air fryer surface before if you prefer but not necessary. Imp Note: Do not crowd the air fryer, Make sure to place the skewers without touching each other, otherwise they will steam instead of air frying.
    • Now air fry paneer skewers on 350F for 12 to 14 mins. You can lightly brush with oil halfway through if they look dry but as the marination has oil in it it is not necessary. If you make sure to place the skewers leaving enough space between pieces and also between skewers, then no need to turn halfway through.
    • Start checking at 10 mins and take them out carefully when they are done to your preference.
    • Sprinkle with little chat masala and lemon juice and serve hot with sliced onions on the side.

    Frequently asked Questions

How can we keep paneer soft on the inside and crispy on the outside in paneer tikka?

Soak the Paneer cubes in hot boiled water for 10 minutes before using them in the recipe, This helps paneer soak up the moisture and keep them soft from inside even after air frying ot cooking.
To get crispy outside, make sure to add the little oil in the marination and also leave enough spaces between each piece on the skewer and also between skewers for air circulation.

Should you soak Paneer before air frying?

Yes, if it is a store-bought paneer or if it is hard even if its home-made. Boil water until rolling boil, turn off the stove and add paneer cubes and let them soak for 10 minutes. Do not remove them from water until you are ready to add them in the marination or any other recipe. They will stick to each other if you leave them out in a bowl after soaking.

Do I need to add any flour to the marination to make it crispy?

No. Adding little oil in the marination and the actual air frying will itself make the paneer crispy. No need to add additional flour for crispiness. However, any air frying recipes should be served right after air frying to maintain the crispiness.

    Is Paneer tikka dry healthy?

Yes. Since Paneer is high in protein and low in carbs, it helps you keep full for a longer time. With the added vegetables, spices and air frying, this Air fryer paneer tikka is definitely a healthier choice.
